Advocacy & Allies - Health & Wellbeing - Social Groups

Queer Sporting Alliance is Australia and New Zealand's largest LGBTIQA+ basketball club. We proudly have teams playing in multiple cities across Australia and New Zealand. Club President and founder Stella Lesic grew up playing basketball in Melbourne. Having experienced life as a closeted youth basketballer, they were driven to build safe spaces for everyone to 'Come Out & Play'. QSA pride themselves on creating safe spaces for LGBTIQA+ basketballers and their allies to play community sport. They are seeking to generate interest in all players in the LGBTIQA+ community (and allies) who are disengaged in sporting activity or looking for a safe space to play basketball. They have a strong focus on supporting the inclusion of transgender and gender diverse players.

Queer Sporting Alliance are excited to now be an official diversity partner of Transgender Victoria and WNBL powerhouse Southside Flyers! QSA is stoked to announce their first ambassador is former Australian Opal, Shelley Gorman! Shelley is a three time Olympian, an Olympic medallist and a Basketball Australia hall of famer. Shelley shares QSA's drive for promoting inclusion and diversity in basketball. She is also dedicated to improving fitness and wellness through her business Urban Warriors which she runs with her partner Kylie.

Queer Sporting Alliance are also planning to form basketball teams in Launceston and have now expanded into Ultimate Frisbee in Hobart.

Queer Sporting Alliance were a recipient of an award at the 2022 Dorothies Awards for inclusive practices in sports.
