Education & Training - Health & Wellbeing
Engender Equality is a free and confidential state-wide counselling service for people who have experienced or are currently experiencing domestic violence and/or abuse.
Counsellors are trained in the dynamics of domestic violence and abuse, inclusive of LGBTIQ+ relationships. We counsel from a strengths-based, trauma-informed perspective. Professional development is ongoing, and includes being informed about issues facing LGBTIQ+ communities and individuals. Our services can be used for as long as it is beneficial to you.
Domestic violence and abuse is covert in nature. For the LGBTIQ+ community these dynamics constitute “another closet” to escape from, compromising health and wellbeing. Being conscious of this, we aim to create a space that acknowledges and is welcoming and inclusive of LGBTIQ+ people.
Testimonial:
“The place is lovely, a house in an ordinary street…made me feel at home…my counsellor got where I was coming from immediately…I didn’t feel judged or blamed.”
