Advocacy & Allies

We provide free and confidential ‘Your Say’ advocacy services across Tasmania based on our ‘Your Say’ approach to advocacy. Our role is to help our clients speak up for themselves and to make sure that their own views and opinions are heard and understood.

Advocacy Tasmania Inc. is an independent community organisation that has provided advocacy services across Tasmania for over 25 years. Our team includes a Board of Governance, employees, volunteers and members, who all work to promote and protect the rights and interests of our clients.

All of our advocates work remotely, to ensure that no matter where in Tasmania you live, we can support you in a way that is convenient and accessible for your needs.

Services we provide:

Individual Advocacy - Our advocates support clients to have their voices heard on issues that, due to their age, disability, mental illness or drug use, stop them from exercising their right to choice and control. We also support people with the NDIS, including access, planning, reviews, appeals and complaints.

Mental Health Tribunal Representation - We provide free representation support for anyone who has to appear before the Mental Health Tribunal (MHT).

Tasmanian Elder Abuse Helpline - If you or someone you know is experiencing elder abuse, the Helpline can provide you with information and support on actions you can take to prevent and respond to the abuse. With the consent of the older person, the Helpline can also provide formal referral and more tailored support.

Systemic Advocacy - All our systemic advocacy is based on the experiences and concerns of individuals we have worked with, and can involve actions from drawing attention to concerns, drafting submissions to inquiries and reform processes and engaging in working group and consultations.

Rights Education - Our advocates provide rights education to service providers, individuals and the community. If you would like an advocate to provide an education session, please contact us.

LGBTIQA+ Specific Services:

Advocacy Tasmania strives to provide sensitive and inclusive support to LGBTIQA+ clients, and is proud to provide a safe and supportive work environment for employees and volunteers across the rainbow.

Advocacy Tasmania can support clients to access and communicate with LGBTIQA+ specific services, where the barriers to access are related to the client's disability or experiences with mental health issues
